Games for the gaming Mom or how to convert your non-gaming Mom to love the battlefield

So Mother’s Day is this weekend and you want to go a little outside the norm of Flowers, Chocolates, Jewelery that uses annoying radio ads. Well look no further than some idea from yours truly. My mom, who just happens to be a gamer will be enjoying the fun of Apollo Justice this year. But here are some great ideas that I had if my mom wasn’t addicted to her new pink DS.

1. PopCap Games

Here is one that you can never go wrong with giving. PopCap games are like the gateway drug to the gaming world and with choices like Peggle, Zuma, and Bejeweled 2 you really can’t go wrong. Plus for Mother’s Day Popcap is donating 30% of your purchases to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for Breast Cancer. So you get the double feel good for the occasion.

2. XBox Live Points / Gametap

Yeah I know it is like giving you mom a gift card but the Xbox Live Arcade has some of the best classic games you mom would love to play again. While my mom knows her Xbox can go online it isn’t since she would need a really long ethernet cable so I can only recommend if A. It is online already or B. you are going to visit.

But now what if your mum doesn’t have a XBox 360 or is currently down with the RRoD. So go with a Gametap subscription gift and USB controller. Thier line up has a lot of great games like Sam and Max plus all your old favorites.

3. Nintendo DS / Touch Generation Titles

You really can’t go wrong with a Nintendo DS and any of the touch generation titles. Who doesn’t enjoy playing out Court Room drama in the Ace Attorney Series or solving brain teasers with Professor Layton.

4. iPod / mp3 Player

While this isn’t so much gaming related but you know your mom likes to rock out to her REO Speedwagon or Neil Diamond in peace. So why not an iPod or an mp3 Player! I think that the new low price on the iPod Shuffles make them a great gift for anyone. If you don’t care much for the Apple Flair you can always go with a Zune or an iRiver.

5.Wii Fit

Now this one is last for a good reason. First your Mom need to have a Wii and secondly you mom would also need or want to be active. But other than that the gift of helping you mom start getting in better shape is always a good gift. Plus little fitness add-on can keep the gifting ideas alive all year.

Well I hope this help out everyone with there last minute Mother’s Day preparations and let us know what you are thinking of giving your Mum for Mother’s Day.

My French Coach - Week 1 & 2

my_french_coach_ss1.jpg

Bonjour, madame et monsieur. C`est le 21 Decembre. I can tell you that I’m excited. At the moment, the memorization section of my brain is getting the biggest work out. I’ve learned to count to one hundred, days, months, the different forms of etre (a basic verb, ie to be) and its placement, basic greetings, and basic colors of the rainbow.
Yeah, I though that I would be the only one learning French and putting a cold to good use (haaack!). That was until during one of my sessions slowly pronouncing the words into the microphone for playback, I heard Faye repeating the words as well with perfect pronunciation on most and a slight accent. So now as we go through our day we count our fingers in French and English, tell colors in F&E, and recite the day’s lessons in the car. Even though she has no idea what I’m saying, what few sentences I can say I say to her, to which she will usually always reply, “Trois, deux, six, dix, cing!”. In true toddler-learning-numbers form that’s 3, 2, 6, 10, 5. The mini games combined with the almost-three-year-old have made the lessons move smoothly from short term to long term memory.
So here is my biggest suggestion for learning a new language, find a two-year-old and talk their ear off. Just don’t be surprised if the two-year-old surpasses you, they’re like little language sponges.

Blue Dragon DS Title Info

Since Mistwalker’s announcement of a Blue Dragon title for the DS, those of you anticipating further information have been left high and dry. But recently scans from Jeux-France have surfaced that give more insight into the game. Blue Dragon isn’t going to be card based fighting. No, the characters will be able to move around the world in real time battle system.

Frag Doll plays “Still Alive” on Jam Sessions

Portal

Knowing that you are not yet tired of the Portal’s ending theme “Still Alive”. Frag Doll, Kitt has decided to do her own rendition of the song using Jam Sessions for the DS. She claims to have no musical talent but she does a decent job and has re-peaked my interest in Jam Sessions again.

See her perform it here.

My French Coach Challenge: Day 1

my_french_coach_ss1.jpg

On a recent excursion to Toys ‘R’ Us, with a $25 gift card burning a hole in Elm’s pocket, I picked up on a complete impulse something that will hopefully expand my mind past mathematics and vision. My French Coach nasally proclaims itself to contain all that is required to conquer the language of romance, food, and dirty novels. I have taken it up on its offer and this evening have embarked on a journey to the undiscovered. Continue reading ‘My French Coach Challenge: Day 1′

Dokodemo Pilates Breaks Out with the Healthy… but only for Japan

There are already loads things on my list, most being the multitude of learning games available only in Japan, the others being food related. Here is the latest addition added because the chill of winter in Texas (leave me alone snow bunnies, I’ve adapted) has made me too slothful to drag my lazy butt to the gym. Konami’s Dokodemo Pilates for the Nintendo DS is obviously only available in Japan… for now. It runs you through exercises from beginner to expert with a 3d “trainer” to show you how it’s done.

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney come in 2008

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney

While I am a huge fan of the Ace Attorney, I didn’t think that I would get a chance to see Apollo Justice make it over to North America. But to my surprise it has and once again let the courtroom bout begin again. Press release to follow.

The latest installment in the highly popular courtroom drama series, Apollo JusticeTM: Ace AttorneyTM sees the introduction of a brand-new lead character and a new chapter for the franchise that has sold over 2 million copies worldwide.

Players star as rookie defense attorney Apollo Justice as he visits crime scenes, questions key witnesses and collects vital evidence before stepping into the courtroom to prove his clients’ innocence. Facing Apollo across the courtroom is the highly talented and flamboyant prosecutor Klavier Gavin who, in addition to being a legal genius, is also lead singer with Gavinners, a highly successful rock band with a string of hits to their name.

He may be young and inexperienced but Apollo’s confident manner and passion, coupled with his unique ability to uncover witnesses’ lies by studying their body language, will prove invaluable assets in the courtroom as he pleads the case for the defense. Thankfully, Apollo is not alone and is aided both in and out of the courtroom by his assistant Trucy, a mysterious female magician. Apollo also receives invaluable advice from his mentor the ultra-cool Kristoph Gavin, elder brother of Klavier, whose perfect logic and natural instincts have won him numerous cases and the respect of his colleagues.
