Games for the gaming Mom or how to convert your non-gaming Mom to love the battlefield

So Mother’s Day is this weekend and you want to go a little outside the norm of Flowers, Chocolates, Jewelery that uses annoying radio ads. Well look no further than some idea from yours truly. My mom, who just happens to be a gamer will be enjoying the fun of Apollo Justice this year. But here are some great ideas that I had if my mom wasn’t addicted to her new pink DS.

1. PopCap Games

Here is one that you can never go wrong with giving. PopCap games are like the gateway drug to the gaming world and with choices like Peggle, Zuma, and Bejeweled 2 you really can’t go wrong. Plus for Mother’s Day Popcap is donating 30% of your purchases to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for Breast Cancer. So you get the double feel good for the occasion.

2. XBox Live Points / Gametap

Yeah I know it is like giving you mom a gift card but the Xbox Live Arcade has some of the best classic games you mom would love to play again. While my mom knows her Xbox can go online it isn’t since she would need a really long ethernet cable so I can only recommend if A. It is online already or B. you are going to visit.

But now what if your mum doesn’t have a XBox 360 or is currently down with the RRoD. So go with a Gametap subscription gift and USB controller. Thier line up has a lot of great games like Sam and Max plus all your old favorites.

3. Nintendo DS / Touch Generation Titles

You really can’t go wrong with a Nintendo DS and any of the touch generation titles. Who doesn’t enjoy playing out Court Room drama in the Ace Attorney Series or solving brain teasers with Professor Layton.

4. iPod / mp3 Player

While this isn’t so much gaming related but you know your mom likes to rock out to her REO Speedwagon or Neil Diamond in peace. So why not an iPod or an mp3 Player! I think that the new low price on the iPod Shuffles make them a great gift for anyone. If you don’t care much for the Apple Flair you can always go with a Zune or an iRiver.

5.Wii Fit

Now this one is last for a good reason. First your Mom need to have a Wii and secondly you mom would also need or want to be active. But other than that the gift of helping you mom start getting in better shape is always a good gift. Plus little fitness add-on can keep the gifting ideas alive all year.

Well I hope this help out everyone with there last minute Mother’s Day preparations and let us know what you are thinking of giving your Mum for Mother’s Day.

ProRemote for the Apple iPhone

While this is a little off topic for our usual news regiment this is spot on for the research that I have been doing to improve the site.

During the last week we have been researching doing video reviews and some audio spots for the DigiGamer site. I use Pro Tools LE for most of our at home audio recording and this application would solve my only Pro Tools woe. While I don’t official have an iPhone yet, I have been a little more interested in them these days. Hopefully this will be available for a public release next year!

Apple Pippin Dev Unit

Apple Pippin Dev Unit

Here is a dev unit of the late Apple Pippin that got release in the US and Japan by Bandai. So if you are interested in getting a piece of Apple history to sit next to your Lisa and Newton the auction link is below. I am strangely drawn to get this even if I can only find about 15 titles that were released for this thing. Plus the only two games from that list that stand out is a Power Rangers Zeo titles and a Gundam game.

More iPod Mania

More iPod ManiaWell if a new iPod Nano was enough yesterday it looks like they also announce the iPod Touch, iPod Classic and a price drop for the iPhone. I have been on the fence for a bit on the whole iPhone thing and I still am just a bit, but this price drop certainly makes it a bit easier to handle. Check out your new choices for music players at Apple.

Apple’s iPod Nano Capable of Surviving Washing Machine!!

A few hours ago, I discovered a little heart attack in the wash. My daughter had hidden my iPod Nano, which was in its plastic case for our move, in her clothing. Without realizing it, I dumped her clothes, iPod and all into the laundry. At the exchange of washer to dryer, I found my little Nano - damp - and well washed. Though it was well encased in its original plastic case, the condensation had still made its way into my Nano, USB wire, and headphones. The prognosis was not good.
I had resigned my little friend “MoMo”, the iPod Nano, to a dirty and unsavory grave amist yesterday’s dinner, but this fate was not to be. Being a person who lives by insanity when it comes to electronics (definition below), I begged to have my little MoMo plugged in one more time.
The blank little screen made my heart sink.. then… miracle of miracles! A flashing symbol and “DO NOT DISCONNECT” played on the screen sans backlight!!! My little buddy was alive! I didn’t care that MoMo’s backlight didn’t work and she had water spots on the inside of her screen. I had mobile music again.
My little iPod Nano that could is doing just fine now. Her backlight is back up and running and she sounds great. All I can say is… thank God I throw no electric box out. Also a very large thanks to the creative team behind that wonderful little plastic delivery case for the Nano, it kept my Nano alive.

This recent mishap has further convinced Elmikey to make the switch to his dreamboat Macbook Pro. He wants the added assurance that his electronics will survive my housecleaning. (Grrrrr!)

(Insanity: doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.)

The Loss of a Dear Friend - iPod Nano.

I have experienced a loss today. For this afternoon, upon preparing for the simple task of moving wet laundry to the dryer, I discovered a beautiful little gift in the washer. A heart attack.
My neon pink iPod Nano, lovingly wrapped in its original clear plastic case for our move into a new apartment, was sitting in between a pair wet of purple socks, Dora undies, and toddler overalls. Yes, my toddler, who loves all things electronic had somehow managed to hide my iPod AND CASE in her clothes, for her to, later on, play with and hopefully crack open the case.
I had washed my iPod.
Hoping beyond hope that that little plastic case was somehow water proof, I gently peeled away the lid. My hopes were dashed… water had in fact seeped into the case destroying my beloved musical friend and all its wires. I will miss you little Nano.
Let’s give my iPod friend a moment of silence….
